Wineries

Balcony towards the blue of the sky and located in the heart of the Appellation Rioja, our wines are made in the oldest winery in the city, its construction dates to 1801. It now comprises the winery, being completed by a new wine tourism complex. Right now, we are improving and expanding the production capacity of the wineries. The winery is built on top of a hill, it is possible to take advantage of the difference of height so that the winemaking process is carried out by using gravity all along the five different levels. This way, each step of the process is developed in a different floor, and the wine goes from one floor to the next one in a natural way. This process contributes to obtain higher quality.
The underground tunnels of the winery, which have been preserved since the Middle Ages. These are underground caves that enabled communication throughout the city in the underground. Later used by neighbors for wine storage, due to the maintenance of constant humidity and temperature throughout the year. And finally rescued by our winery for the rest and improvement of our wines.
All this work is developed with the experience and extensive trajectory of more than 130 years of work that supports us.

AzulTono

Serenity, harmony, loyalty and truth are only a small part of all the symbolism that the color Blue possesses. Much more than a simple color, at Azul Tono we wanted to reflect each of those characteristics. Like a glass of wine, it also represents sympathy and friendship. Let us never forget that the sky is blue, and that is why blue is the color of the divine, the color of the eternal.

Winemakers

Victor and David Fernández de Manzanos are the fifth generation of a family dedicated to wine´s world, more than 130 years committed body and soul to the cultivation of the vine and the elaboration of quality wines in DOCa Rioja, one of the most relevant appellations in the world.

The Fdez. De Manzanos brothers were born in the land of wine par excellence which have grown between vineyards, wineries and wines, currently are dedicated body and soul to develop the legacy received in 2010 by the previous 4 generations, from that year began a rigorous work on finding the most exclusive terroirs, selection of the best grapes, and overseeing every elaboration in order to achieve its consistent goal: “to share with us your passion, WINE.”

Wineyards

DOCa Rioja has a very particular climate and soils for the growth of the grape varieties from which the wines of great quality and personality are elaborated that distinguish us from the rest of the world appellations. Our vineyards are spread throughout the denomination distributed in different strategic points, this allows us to explore the qualities of each terroir and its singularities, in this way we can make a selection on each plot to produce each type of wine. In turn, the viticulture we practice is sustainable, always respecting the environment.

Terroir

The confluence of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean climate, smooth temperatures, regular rainfall and the air currents generated by our unique wind “Cierzo”, make up an excellent microclimate for growing grapes. In addition, we have different types of soil, among which the three best known predominate: calcareous clay, ferrous clay and alluvial.

All the above together with the different ages of the vines and trellises or bush constitute an ideal ecosystem for the optimal development of our vineyards.
